@stevieray351 Mario and Gretz had to endure clutching, hooking and holding like you have never seen in your 5 yrs of watching hockey. I would never say Ovechkin couldn’t have fought through it but to distinguish the eras of hockey based solely on the size of pads and what you call lesser skill level is moronic. Believe little guy, you missed out on beauty in Lemieux.
and the fact that players like lemieux and gretzky had to deal with two line passes and offsides. you wouldn’t know about those though because your a pathetic excuse for a hockey fan
@stevieray351 Skill level? how are you going to try and compare today’s goalies to the likes of Brodeur, Roy, Barasso, Hasek, Osgood, Belfour, Fuhr, Cujo? And if your gonna bring equipment to the table, today’s players have more advanced equipment like sticks skates and whatever. so if you take into account the lack of skill and the size of pads, it was close to the same as it is now. and ovechkin vs ECHL goalies? thats a pathetic comparison thats nothing like lemieux in today’s game.
@Irato99 Yeah nice one smart-ass. Sorry my mistake for the Samuelson Brothers.
And of course he never won the Maurice Richard Trophy! The trophy was inducted in 1999. But it is for the player who’ve had the most goals in the season… Thing that he did year after year!
Thank you for the reply!
lol
@btxc4life87 I would like to see mario and gretzky try to score all those goals on todays NHL goalies….Look at the skill level, and the minute size of the pads goalies had in the 80’s and early 90’s…It would be like Ovechkin playing against ECHL goalies now
your ridiculous. ovechkin is top ten, maybe, mostly because he averages 6 shots a game. but he’s not even IN THE SAME LEAGUE as lemieux and gretzky. those two are on a level much higher than ovy, forsberg, crosby, malkin, tavares, whoever. ovechkin is compared using “who’s better….ovy or crosby, or malkin, or anybody else in the league.” when gretzky and mario played, there was none of that. they were on a level all their own.
ya im from pittsburgh… but im young and watch alot of hockey nothing beats mario….. nothing beats wat he went thru to be the best… no1 made every single person on the ice better… ya mario is a god….Gretzky can have the empty record and all the dumb slap shots from the blue line but no1 had more skill than mario…. absolutely no1
This guy was too good to be true! He never had protection like Gretzky had with the samuelson brothers and Semenco. Lemieux had back injury problem, cancer and still won year after year the maurice richard trophee!
1.Lemieux
2.Orr
3.Gretzky
4.Maurice Richard
5.Guy Lafleur
6.Steve Yzerman
7.Nicklas Lidstrom
8.Martin Brodeur
9.Patrick Roy
10.Sidney Crosby

Does anybody knows what is the name of that first song?
so what he’s still the second greatest player of all time leave it alone u forgot 92 lets see u play in the NHL!!!
The best hockey player, to date
@Vinny19rocks
No, only 3 times (87-88, 88-89, 95-96), you saw more in your dreams…
5 times. and second about two more
Stevieray351…….you are clearly a young a young dude who is NOT familiar with the concept of relativity.
Seconldy any hockey fan with half a brain knows that Ovechkin is not fit to handle Super Mario’s jock strap.
Ovechkin is a great player, but to even suggest that he is better than Lemieux is crazy.
@Irato99 Nope you’re right again! I will change my change my sentense for:« He dominated the league, in goal, assists and points year after year.
Hif you’re not confortable with any other sentense, let me know again!
Thanx!
@Vinny19rocks
Investigate and, then, tell me who’s the idiot…
more then that idiot
@suckazzz3334
No problem… By the way, Mario led the league in goals 3 times, I would not call it year after year.
